Jason Myers Barely Keeps Points Lead at Bowman Gray

(Bowman Gray Stadium, Winston-Salem, NC) The points contests seem to be in a constant state of flux in the 2012 season at Bowman Gray Stadium, so it’s no surprise that the roller-coaster ride continued on Saturday.
            Jason Myers of Walnut Cove maintains the points lead in the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series – but just barely. Myers was the 16th fastest qualifier on Saturday, putting the pressure on him in the first Modified race.
            Myers climbed up to a 14th place finish – but unfortunately for Myers, the “Madhouse Scramble” draw was a 12. That gave him a 14th place start in the second race and kept all of his points rivals ahead of him. Myers managed to tread water – finishing 14th in the second race.
            Meanwhile, Lee Jeffreys of Wallburg finished a strong third and seventh. Jeffreys mvoes up from third in the points to second in the points – just one point under Myers. Tim Brown of Rural Hall moves up to third, and Jonathan Brown of Winston-Salem moves up to fourth. Michael Clifton of Walkertown drops from second down to fifth in the points after mechanical issues struck.
            Jeff Garrison of Arcadia finishes in second on Saturday, boosting him into the points lead for the Webb Heating & A/C Co. Sportsman Series. Derek Stoltz of Walkertown, who was the points leader entering Saturday’s race, spun as he battled with John Lain of Kernersville. Stoltz slips down to second in the points.
            In the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series, Billy Gregg of Lexington maintains his points lead. David Sumner of Trinity stays in second but gains ground. John Holleman of Winston-Salem took the checkered, moving him to just two points behind Sumner.
            A.J. Sanders rockets forward in the points standings for the Summer Shootout Stadium Stock Series after claiming victory in Saturday’s Craftsman Stadium Stock 50. Sanders leaps from seventh in the points up to second. Charlie Curry, who was the fastest qualifier for Saturday’s 50-lapper, finished third and keeps the points lead.
The points ladders are ready to be shaken up this Saturday – it’s the Great Clips 100. And it’s also One Dollar Ladies’ Night: All women get in for only a buck to see the Great Clips 100 for the Modifieds, plus racing for the Sportsman, Street Stock, and Stadium Stock Divisions.
